Banjarmasin City, widely known as the “City of a Thousand Rivers,” has developed a distinctive river-based tourism system shaped by its extensive river network, cultural heritage, and waterfront landscapes. This study aims to analyse the spatial distribution pattern of river tourism attractions in Banjarmasin City and examine the geographical factors influencing their distribution. The research employed a quantitative spatial approach by integrating field observations, geographic coordinate data, administrative boundaries, river network data, and tourism information. Spatial data were processed and analysed using Geographic Information Systems and nearest neighbour analysis to identify whether tourism attractions were distributed in clustered, random, or dispersed patterns. The study identified 36 river tourism attractions distributed across Banjarmasin City. The results indicate that river tourism attractions exhibit a clustered spatial pattern, with a nearest neighbour ratio value of 0.62. The concentration of attractions is primarily located along the Martapura River corridor, particularly in areas with high accessibility, supporting tourism infrastructure, historical significance, and strong socio-cultural functions. In contrast, peripheral attractions show more dispersed patterns due to limited connectivity and infrastructure availability. This study contributes to geographic research by demonstrating the application of spatial analysis approaches to understand tourism distribution patterns in river-based urban environments. The findings provide spatial information that can support sustainable tourism planning, destination management, and the development of more balanced river tourism networks in Banjarmasin City.
