Screaning Plagiarism and AI Checking

Plagiarism Screening

Jurnal Penelitian Geografi (JPG) is committed to upholding the highest standards
of publication ethics and academic integrity. To ensure originality and prevent
academic misconduct, all submitted manuscripts undergo a rigorous screening
process before being sent for peer review.

1. Plagiarism Detection

Every manuscript submitted to JPG is screened using Turnitin, a leading
plagiarism detection software that compares submitted text against billions
of web pages, academic publications, and previously published works.

   - Manuscripts with a similarity index above 25% (excluding references,
quotations, and common phrases) will be returned to the author(s) for
     revision before further processing.
   - Manuscripts with a similarity index above 40% will be automatically
rejected and will not proceed to the review stage.
   - Authors are strongly encouraged to properly cite and paraphrase all
     sources to avoid unintentional plagiarism.

2. AI-Generated Content Detection

In addition to plagiarism screening, JPG also uses Turnitin's AI Writing
Detection feature to identify content that may have been generated or
substantially produced by artificial intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT,
other large language models).

   - The use of AI tools for language editing, grammar checking, or
improving readability is permitted, provided it is disclosed by the
author(s) in the manuscript (e.g., in the Acknowledgments or Methods
     section).
   - Manuscripts found to contain substantial AI-generated content without
proper disclosure, particularly content affecting the scientific
analysis, findings, interpretation, or conclusions, may be rejected
     or require substantial revision.
   - Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, and
integrity of their work, regardless of any AI assistance used.

3. Screening Procedure

   a. All manuscripts are screened by the editorial team upon submission,
prior to being assigned to a reviewer.
   b. The similarity and AI detection reports are reviewed by the
Editor-in-Chief or an assigned Section Editor.
   c. If plagiarism or undisclosed AI-generated content is identified
after publication, the journal reserves the right to retract the
article in accordance with COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics)
      guidelines.

4. Author Responsibility

Authors are required to ensure that their manuscript is their own original
work and has not been published or is not under consideration elsewhere.
Any use of third-party material must be properly cited, and any use of AI
tools must be transparently disclosed.
