Peer Review Process

Journal of Geographical Research is committed to ensuring the quality, integrity, and academic rigor of all published articles. The journal employs a double-blind peer review process, in which both the authors and reviewers remain anonymous throughout the review.

Overview of the Double-Blind Peer Review Process

  1. Initial Editorial Screening Upon submission, the editorial office conducts an initial check to verify that the manuscript fits the scope of the journal and meets basic submission requirements, including formatting and ethical compliance.

  2. Assignment to an Editor If the submission passes the initial screening, it is assigned to a subject editor with expertise in the relevant field.

  3. Reviewer Selection The editor selects a minimum of two independent peer reviewers who are experts in the manuscript's subject area. Reviewers are chosen based on their academic credentials, lack of conflict of interest, and previous reviewing experience.

  4. Anonymity and Confidentiality Both the reviewers and the authors remain anonymous throughout the process to ensure impartiality. Authors must ensure that their manuscripts are prepared in a way that does not reveal their identity (e.g., by removing names, affiliations, and self-identifying references).

  5. Review Criteria Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on:

    • Originality and significance of the research

    • Soundness of methodology

    • Clarity of presentation

    • Validity of results and conclusions

    • Compliance with ethical standards

  6. Editorial Decision After receiving reviewer reports, the editor makes a decision, which may be:

    • Accept

    • Minor revision

    • Major revision

    • Reject

Authors are provided with anonymized reviewer comments and, if applicable, asked to revise the manuscript accordingly.

  7. Revision and Final Evaluation Revised manuscripts may be returned to the same reviewers for further evaluation. The editor makes the final decision based on the reviewers' recommendations and the quality of the revisions.

  8. Publication Once accepted, the article proceeds to copyediting and production before being published online with immediate open access.

Reviewer Ethics

All reviewers are expected to:

  • Maintain strict confidentiality

  • Provide objective and constructive feedback

  • Declare any conflicts of interest

  • Comply with ethical review standards, including those outlined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
